A Call To Develop Your “Delight Radar”
finding joy in these turbulent times
Ross Gay, an award winning American poet, challenged himself to write mini-essays about delight every day for 365 days after his 42nd birthday. This wasn’t an easy feat, but the effort was fruitful; it became The Book of Delights.
When he first started, he was thinking that it would be difficult to have something delightful happen every day. But something interesting happen, he developed what he called, “a delight radar.”
““The more you study delight, the more delight there is to study… I felt my life to be more full of delight. Not without sorrow or fear or pain or loss. But more full of delight.””
I wonder how each of our lives would be transformed if we tried to incorporated this practice into our lives?
Listening to his conversation with Krista Tippet on the On Being Podcast, I felt inspired to create this image, and have a beautiful reminder to look for and celebrate the little moments of delight every day.
It reminds me of another quote I love, “what you appreciate, appreciates.”
We are living in some tremendously uncertain times, where all our routines and habits have been thrown by the wayside.
Developing stronger “delight muscles” would enable us to walk through these turbulent times with grace and ease. To deep dive into this topic further, check out his interview on here.
